A Bird Worth Fighting For

A fight to keep the existence of the Ducula Oceanica Ratakensis (Ratak Imperial Pigeon) locally known as MULE a sub species of the Micronesian Imperial Pigeon (Ducula Oceanica Oceanica) has been managed by the Marshallese community for some time now. " Where are the Mules?" said a local; Over the years we have been loosing big numbers of our Mules, with that we are forced to take action.

The Mule conservation is top priority here in the Marshall Islands. The Pubic awareness committee of the Marshall Islands Conservation Society were able to put up boards around public places about the Ratak Imperial Pigeons to increase awareness on how conserving these birds mean to the Marshall Islands.

Also with our Effective Conservation such as restoring habitats, food replanting (papyas, seeded breadfruits) and of course public awareness and education people of the Marshall Islands are able to care for the Mules.
